Spencer Park Surf Life Saving Club Fortnightly Newsletter

Happy New Year.  This summer has been great with some hot days.  Unfortunately, drownings during the holiday break have been prolific.  Swimming between the flags is definitely the safest place to swim.  There has been a lot of hours put in by lifeguards all around New Zealand keeping our beaches safe.  A huge thank you to our lifeguards, young and old who have been patrolling our beach on the weekends.  It is all voluntary and they certainly do an amazing job.  Keep up the good work.  As parents, please make sure your children swim between the flags and stay safe in the water.

Club day
There is a club day this Sunday for those not attending the Waikuku Carnival.

Club togs
We wish to remind everyone they need to be wearing club togs if they want to compete for our club.

Kaylene will be at Waikuku on Sunday and will have togs, caps and vests with her if they need them,  alternatively they can text her on 0274298950.

We have just been advised the Nelson Carnival is ON.  It is open to all athletesfrom Open down to Under 8's.  What a fantastic venue to have a day in the sun.
Even if you have spoken to Nicki about attending either of these events PLEASE RECONFIRM with her.

The format is:
  • Pool Champs 3pm Saturday 23rd January at Nayland Pool.
  • BBQ available at the pool complex to have team dinner there.
  • Surf Comp 9am Sunday 23th January at Tahuna beach
As the comp is starting later on the Saturday afternoon it gives us the opportunity to travel Saturday morning and only require one night's accommodation.  Please let us know asap if you are attending.  Unless we get a good number athletes wanting to compete it isn't going to be viable for us as a club to attend.
