Spencer Park Surf Life Saving Club Newsletter
Welcome to Spencer Park Surf Life Saving Club.
Thanks to all those who attended registration day. In usual
Christchurch fashion, it was not the best day to be in the water,
but we still had fun meeting everyone. It was great to some
old and some new faces and welcome our new members. We will
still be taking registrations at opening day this weekend.
The weather looks good for this weekend, so bring wetsuits if you
have them and we hope to be getting in the water.
We have a busy season ahead of us with lots of carnivals for junior and seniors, lifeguard training underway, IRB training also happening and a social night in November.
If you haven't yet heard about the Rarangi Carnival, it is on Show weekend at Whites Bay, just outside of Blenheim. It's a great family event, where everyone gets involved, races for the juniors, seniors and parents. See us this Sundayfor further details if you are interested.
We are still seeking a funding officer for our club. If you think you could help out with this position, please contact the president.
The new clubroom project is growing momentum and the building committee are in the final stages of funding, with the building date being proposed for next year.
Orders for uniforms can be taken at club day. Please see Kaylene Hamilton.
For those who think they have the ability to compete for our club at Oceans 16 (junior nationals) at Mount Maunganui in March next year, please tell your coach you are interested.
There will be no club day on 15th November (show weekend) as most of our coaches at Rarangi for the weekend.
IRB Driver Training will take place on the
following evenings (18:00 TBC);
- Mon 2 Nov
- Mon 9 Nov
- Mon 16 Nov
- Mon 23 Nov
We are fairly short on IRB Drivers for the patrolling season. Training will be a combination of basic handling and surf driving based on your experience. Please let Chris Parker know if you would like to attend as either a trainee or an instructor.
IRB Crewman Training doesn't have a confirmed date, but we're looking at Sun 22 Nov. More to follow in the coming weeks.
Lifeguard Training Day (run by SLSNZ) is Sun 1 Nov. The feedback from last year was that it was a really fun course which was virtually all practical stuff. Activities will include advanced rescue techniques, rock work, IRB crew/driver work. I recommend that you attend this if you have at least 1 seasons experience. Please let Chris Parker know if you can attend before Friday 30 October.
Please get in touch with Chris Parker if you want to attend a First Aid Course. There are a number of options coming up, and the club is providing a 50% subsidy.
The senior squad training plan is available on the club
web site. Please contact Dave for further informations
A meeting is being held at the club after training to go over the competitions over the next 6 weeks.
Competition details are available on the SLSNZ web site - http://www.slsnz.org.nz/sport/calendar/
