Spencer Park Surf Life Saving Club Newsletter
Welcome to the new members to our club. It was great
to see so many new faces at open day on the weekend.
However it is with sad news that we announce one of our long time members has passed away. Mike Eder has been involved in Spencer Park SLSC for many years, heavily involved especially with IRB's and supporting our club. He has been unwell for a long period of time and passed away on Saturday at the age of 50. Our thoughts go out to his family. A service for Mike is going to be held this Saturday at 10:30am at the Rangiora Chapel at Wai-mana
The first carnival of the season will be held at RARANGI SURF CLUB (Blenheim) on Show Weekend (Friday 13th November - Sunday 15th November). We require urgent confirmation of numbers for this event as we have to get gear packed and let Rarangi know how many they have to cater for on Saturday night. Please email email@example.com and confirm how many of you are coming and if you are camping with us.
This is a great opener to the season with some fantastic surf conditions and the chance for everyone to have a go on most of the gear. We will be taking up everything from boogie boards to senior surf boards and also surf ski's. Parents are encouraged to have a crack while we are there. You never know we may find some hidden talents and skills. The weekend is designed as a family weekend away and we usually have at least 50 (or more) from Spencer Park attending. Most of our families use Show Day (Friday 13th November) to travel to Blenheim, there is a coaching session on Saturday morning with the Carnival on Saturday afternoon. Sunday another short coaching session and then home.
Whites Bay, where the surf club is located, is a DOC campground. There is running water, and flushing toilets at the surf club with potable water on tap at the campground. The location map is below. Just in case it doesn't work, search google maps and look for "Whites Bay Camping Area".
We do need to let Rarangi Surf Club know how many will be attending so we can book the campsites and also for their catering. They put on a BBQ dinner for us on Saturday night. Blenheim is about 20 minutes away so supplies can be bought from there for the rest of the weekend.
If you and your family are attending this carnival can you please email our new Junior Coordinator, Libby Watherston with how many will be going and what nights you will be staying at the camp ground. Some of us go up on Thursday and make a really long weekend of it.
Her email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
