Club news - 1st OctPosted by Spencer Park Admin on Sunday, 11 October 2015
The beginning of the surf season is just around the corner. REGRISTATION DAY is being held on Sunday 18 October from 10am at the Surf Club. It is a great chance to catch up with old friends have a chat and meet some new friends. We will have the BBQ on and some drinks available. Bring a wetsuit, you never know it may be tropical enough for a bit of a splash. Sorry no promises on the weather but can guarantee a warm welcome. For those of you who can't make it on the 18th the link to be do your registration is below.
Payment can be made online and the details are on the website here.
We receive our funding from Surf Life Saving New Zealand based on the number of members we have so everyone's registration is VERY important to the club.
To make sure the club is spick and span before registration there is a WORKING BEE at the club Sunday 11 October from10am. It is not envisioned it will take no more than a couple of hours with "all hands to the pump". If you are able to bring some tools with you that would be fantastic (broom, wheel barrow, shovel, rags etc) If you have a power washer (or water blaster) you could share please let Nicki know. The other 'tool' we need is a long reach broom or window washer. Again if you have one please let Nicki know. My number is 027 626 0990, flick me a text or email me on firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know if you are able to help out and what tools you can bring. Whole families are welcome, everyone can be found a job.
The first event on the senior calendar is the WHITE ISLAND race. This is held Labour Weekend and is hosted by St Clair Surf Club in Dunedin. The race is 5km in length and is from the St Clair Surf Club around White Island and return. There is cash on the table for the winner and record breakers. If you are interested in going please contact Dave Smith (if you have not already done so) and he will fill you in on costs and accommodation. This is a restricted race to qualified lifeguards and also a competence requirement. Anyone who wants to compete must be "up to the task" and the final decision will be made by Dave. We want to keep you all safe and have fun. Info from the St Clair website is below
Following fast on the heels of White Island is the family carnival held at RARANGI SURF CLUB (Blenheim) on Show Weekend (Friday 13th November - Sunday 15th November). To subsidise the Maguire family who are towing the trailer a charge of $5 per board/ski on the trailer will be invoiced to you. This is a great opener to the season with some fantastic surf conditions and the chance for everyone to have a go on most of the gear. We will be taking up everything from boogie boards to senior surf boards and also surf ski's. Parents are encouraged to have a crack while we are there. You never know we may find some hidden talents and skills. The weekend is designed as a family weekend away and we usually have at least 50 (or more) from Spencer Park attending. Most of our families use Show Day (Friday 13th November) to travel to Blenheim, there is a coaching session on Saturday morning with the Carnival on Saturday afternoon. Sunday another short coaching session and then home.
Whites Bay, where the surf club is located, is a DOC campground. There is running water, and flushing toilets at the surf club with pottable water on tap at the campground. The location map is below. Just incase it doesn't work, search google maps and look for "Whites Bay Camping Area".
